And Microsoft Confuses Us Again

June 25, 2009 by Andy Brudtkuhl · Comments

To put this in context – Apple is releasing their new OS Snow Leopard for $29. There are no other versions – just the OS for $29. Okay.

Now you’d think Microsoft would have learned from the marketing debacle that was Vista. Here’s the pricing info for Windows 7, announced today.

win7

These estimated retail prices for upgrade packaged retail product of Windows 7 in the U.S. are:

  • Windows 7 Home Premium (Upgrade): $119.99
  • Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade): $199.99
  • Windows 7 Ultimate (Upgrade): $219.99

And the estimated retail prices for full packaged retail product of Windows 7 in the U.S. are:

  • Windows 7 Home Premium (Full): $199.99
  • Windows 7 Professional (Full): $299.99
  • Windows 7 Ultimate (Full): $319.99

Confused yet? So am I.

I have a MacBook and a PC. I’ll definitely be upgrading to Snow Leopard. But there is no way I am $220 to upgrade my Vista Ultimate machine to Windows 7 Ultimate – if that’s even the right upgrade path. But if you want to – it will be available on October 22!

Oh Microsoft haven’t you figured out that less is more? Why so many choices? At least the case is easy to open.

Today Amazon announced an update to its Amazon Web Services (AWS) console supporting its CDN infrastructure CloudFront.

Manage Amazon CloudFront through an easy to use interface. The AWS Management Console lets you review all your CloudFront distributions, create new distributions, or edit existing ones. All the features of the CloudFront API are supported: you can enable or disable distributions, configure CNAMEs, enable end-user logging, and more.

Switching Back to TweetDeck

June 19, 2009 by Andy Brudtkuhl · Comments

For the last month I’ve been using Seesmic as a Twitter client because it was the best solution for a multi account power user.

This week’s TweetDeck update has me using TweetDeck again. Why? They added multi account support and server syncing. Server syncing allows you to use TweetDeck on multiple platforms – including an upcoming iPhone app – and maintain settings, groups, saved searches, etc across each instance using TweetDeck’s new server sync feature – the one thing I thought was missing from Twitter clients.

What Twitter client are you using and why? Let us know in the comments or on FriendFeed!

FriendFeed Stats from FeedStats

May 26, 2009 by Andy Brudtkuhl · Comments

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of FriendFeed and I find more value with it than Twitter.

That being said I am very excited about the release of FeedStats from my fellow Iowans over at Microblink

From their release

Today we’d like to announce our second public project, FeedStats. FeedStats exists for the purpose of visualizing FriendFeed users’ data to see how they interact not only with the service, but with other users. It’s a quick way to find what services they’re using, when they post, and who interacts with their content the most.
