Hack the Debate!

September 18, 2008 by Andy Brudtkuhl · 3 Comments

Current is doing something very cool with the upcoming presidential debates. Instead of the traditional stuffy political commentary that coincides with the impending boredom and scripted fluff answers that is presidential debates, Current will be broadcasting “Hack the Debate” - which will show the real-time twitter conversation in parallel.

Current & Twitter have teamed up for the very first time to integrate real-time Twitter messages (aka “tweets”) over major portions of a live television broadcast.

Hack the debate by adding your Twitter posts to our live broadcast of the 2008 Presidential Debates.

We will broadcast as many of your debate tweets as possible right over Obama & McCain, in real time, on our live broadcast.

UPDATE:
current: @abrudtkuhl tweets will be filtered to meet broadcast standards. i answer some of this here if you’d like to link: http://tinyurl.com/4ujmmg” - twitter

Popular Blogs are Mainstream Media?

July 9, 2008 by Andy Brudtkuhl · Leave a Comment

Jeremiah Owyang pinpoints the reason I don’t read TechCrunch…

So what’s the difference between today’s mainstream press and a-list blogger ‘teams’? Is it quality? Not always. Is it timeliness? It varies. Is it the ability to leave comments? both styles have comments available. Is it personality? It depends.

Perhaps the primary difference is the difference in niche (long tail) content written from first hand sources, and secondly, who will respond and leave comments on this post, I’ll be it’ll be primarily bloggers, not mainstream media folks.

I prescribe to the believe that this evolution is natural, a new medium has been born, and with it comes a shift in power –human traits to organize and band together stem from our earliest tribal instincts. Not much has changed

Enough Said…

Leonard Downie Jr. on Future of Newspapers

June 30, 2008 by Andy Brudtkuhl · Leave a Comment

If you are a classic GANB reader you know of my interest (perhaps obsession) in the evolution of media. Last week OnPoint had Leonard Downie Jr. on for an interview as he steps down from the executive editor of the Washington Post after 17 years - and 44 years total with the paper. The discussion includes topics such as the future of newspapers, old media embracing new media, and how the landscape of news media will change and adapt as the audience moves increasingly online. It’s a great discussion.

This week, Leonard Downie Jr., the executive editor of The Washington Post, announced he’s stepping down after 17 years at the helm.

Forty-four years total at the newspaper, where he arrived as a summer intern in 1964.

Many of the stories he’s had a hand in are defining: Watergate. Secret CIA prisons. Walter Reed. The Post has won 25 Pulitzers with Downie in charge — six this year.

But he’s not without some regrets. And he’s leaving at an uncertain time for newspapers — and for the news.

On Point - Leonard Downie Jr
