WordPress ReTweet Plugins

by Andy Brudtkuhl on July 27, 2009

Over at the Web Strategy Blog we covered two WordPress ReTweet plugins today. This is a great way to drive Twitter traffic to your WordPress blog.

We cover TweetMeme’s ReTweet Plugin and BackType TweetCounter plugin.

In case you are wondering – we are using TweetMeme’s button here and BackType’s button over at Web Strategy Workshop. Which is better? We are leaning towards BackTypes…

Check Out ReTweet.com Early

by Andy Brudtkuhl on July 27, 2009

There’s been all kinds of drama lately about the impending ReTweet.com and how it’s pretty much blatantly copying TweetMeme. It’s gotten to the point where TweetMeme is set to sue ReTweet. This is all very silly but it’s quite apparent that not only is ReTweet ripping off TweetMeme’s idea but even copying their code.

With a little easy digging it is very easy to check out what ReTweet.com will be – aside from the killer domain.

Go to http://174.129.2.195/meme/top/index/ and check out what they are working on. It’s definitely strikingly similar.

But really – who cares?

MySpace MyAds Says No

by Andy Brudtkuhl on July 26, 2009

I recently decided to try MySpace myAds platform for a targeted advertising campaign. I also wanted to compare click through and conversion rates with Facebook. And with a $75 MySpace MyAds coupon from ShoeMoney it was a no brainer. Who doesn’t like free advertising?

Well after waiting approximately 6 days for my ad to go through the approval process – my ad was declined.

The advertisement in your campaign for account abrudtkuhl was reviewed to ensure that it complies with our editorial guidelines. We would like you to know that your ad was not accepted for the following reason: No twitter ads.

There are two problems here – the amount of time it took to get the ad approved (6 days – seriously?) and the unknown editorial guidelines that caused my ad to get rejected.

So far – disappointed with the MyAds platform.

Google Reader Changed How I Consume Information (again)

by Andy Brudtkuhl on July 23, 2009

Yesterday I cleansed my Google Reader removing 75% of the feeds I subscribe to. Google Reader’s latest update adding people search, following, and likes completely changed how I consume information – with less noise and more signal.

For years I’ve been talking about creating networks of human filters. I’ve even tried building apps that allow these networks to form and once FriendFeed came along I realized that other people saw the value in creating these same types of filters. Techmeme also quickly realized what I’ve been thinking for years – a computer simply cannot remove all the noise and thus a human is necessary.

Back to Google Reader. So there are 10-15 blogs I read regularly. I was probably only interested in 10-20% of the “other” posts that came into Google Reader and due to the massive amount of noise I probably only got to read 10% of that 10% :-)

So yesterday I dove into Google Reader and started “following” people I trust to consume information, figure out what’s relevant, and share it. Now instead of subscribing to hundreds of RSS feeds I let Louis Gray, Robert Scoble, Michael Fruchter and others tell me what’s important.

Amazon Buys Zappos

by Andy Brudtkuhl on July 22, 2009

Details: Zappos gets 10million Amazon shares… equal to $807 million

Jeff Bezo’s Message to Zappos…

A letter from Tony, CEO of Zappos – http://blogs.zappos.com/ceoletter

Of note – it’s not “official” yet – just a definitive agreement…

We signed what’s known as the “definitive agreement” today, but we still need to go through the process of getting government approval, so we are anticipating that this transaction actually won’t officially close for at least a few months. We are legally required by the SEC to be in what’s known as a “quiet period”, so if you get any questions related to the transaction from anyone including customers, vendors, or the media, please let them know that we are in a quiet period mandated by law and have them email tree@zappos.com, which is a special email account that Alfred and I will be monitoring.
