Switching Back to TweetDeck

by Andy Brudtkuhl on June 19, 2009

For the last month I’ve been using Seesmic as a Twitter client because it was the best solution for a multi account power user.

This week’s TweetDeck update has me using TweetDeck again. Why? They added multi account support and server syncing. Server syncing allows you to use TweetDeck on multiple platforms – including an upcoming iPhone app – and maintain settings, groups, saved searches, etc across each instance using TweetDeck’s new server sync feature – the one thing I thought was missing from Twitter clients.

What Twitter client are you using and why? Let us know in the comments or on FriendFeed!

The Cyber War in Iran

by Andy Brudtkuhl on June 17, 2009

This is one of the most advanced cyber battles I’ve seen and what is even more important is the involvement of citizens using social media to enter the trenches of this web based cyber war. Sides have been taken as protesters from around the world have collaborated and planned attacks, rallies, and protests via social media, especially Twitter.

via Wired – “Web Attacks Expand in Iran’s Cyber Battle“…

“We turned our collective power and outrage into a serious weapon that we could use at our will, without ever having to feel the consequences. We practiced distributed, citizen-based warfare,” writes Matthew Burton, a former U.S. intelligence analyst who joined in the online assaults, thanks to a “push-button tool that would, upon your click, immediately start bombarding 10 Web sites with requests.”

Distributed citizen based warfare… And I thought citizen journalism was cool – this definitely trumps that on a scale we’ve not seen before. Social Networks have provided millions of interconnected networks of people to band together and organize mass protests and attacks in an unprecedented manner.

The Future of the Web – A Paid System

by Andy Brudtkuhl on June 16, 2009

Barry Diller says the future of the web – within 5 years – is a paid system. He says the only thing missing right now is a streamlined billing system – like Amazon’s “one-click” buy now option (which is actually patented by Amazon).

Barry Says

“I absolutely believe the Internet is passing from its free days into a paid system. Inevitably, I promise you, it will be paid,” Diller said in a keynote discussion opening up the Advertising 2.0 conference held at his company’s futuristic glass building alongside the Hudson River in Manhattan. “Not every single thing, but anything of value. “

The fact that content and services on the Internet so far have been largely supplied for no charge is “an accident of historical moment that will be corrected,” he said, in an era of “creative chaos” that will span the next three to five years.

WordPress 2.8 Is Available

by Andy Brudtkuhl on June 11, 2009

First and foremost, 2.8 is way faster to use. We’ve changed the way WordPress does style and scripting.

The core and plugin updaters in previous versions of WordPress have been such a success we decided to bring the same to themes. You can now browse the entire theme directory and install a theme with one click from the comfort of your WordPress dashboard.

We upgraded this morning without a hitch!
