Basecamp on iPhone

by Andy Brudtkuhl on January 28, 2009

As you know at 48Web we are a huge fan of Basecamp for managing our business. We use it to manage projects, research, and even our internet business podcast. Thankfully we are super busy nowadays (who says we’re in a bad economy?) and have to manage a lot of our business while on the move. Getting an iPhone was a huge boost in mobile productivity and thanks to a killer API for Basecamp – there are many iPhone applications that allow us to manage our projects on the move as well.

Here are two tools for using Basecamp on your iPhone.

Groundwork
We use Groundwork so we’ll touch on this application first. First off – we love it. It has all the features we need to effectively manage our projects on the iPhone. You can do messaging, todo lists, manage milestones, and update contacts. It’s $3.99 in the AppStore. Download Now (link opens iTunes)

Outpost
Outpost is another application for Basecamp. When we chose Basecamp and need an iPhone solution – this had yet to be released so we went with Groundwork. Outpost is similar as it provides support for messages, milestones, and comments. A key feature that Outposts differentiates itself with is offline support. Outpost is available for $12.99 in the AppStore. Download Now (link opens iTunes)

Here is a demo for Outpost on the iPhone:

Of course, both of these applications require you have a Basecamp account… Signup today! And breathe a sigh of relief.

Daily Digest 01/28/2009

by Andy Brudtkuhl on January 27, 2009

  • Situation:
You run a social media program at a corporation, and you need to measure to improve your program, but more importantly to show to your bosses that this ‘new media’ program is worth it’s weight.

    Challenges:
You see the immediate value of a community program but your management is unconvinced. Furthermore, the brand police and the traditional hard-liners don’t like your ‘open-thinking’ type of revolt. There may be other challenges too: lots of activity but few people, or you simply don’t know where to start.

    Goals
Deliver a report that demonstrates the value of a social media program as well as helps you improve the program over time.

Gary Vaynerchuck at Affiliate Summit

by Andy Brudtkuhl on January 27, 2009

Some killer advice (as usual) from Gary Vaynerchuck.

Some Notes

  • Swing for the fence
  • “If you aren’t vanity searching blogs and twitter you are a fundamental clown”
  • Monetize through building brand equity
  • “The newspaper industry is going to get its face beat in”
  • When you care, you win
  • Go direct to the consumer

Citizen Journalism, Explained

by Andy Brudtkuhl on January 26, 2009

If you have been reading here you know I’m a huge fan of citizen journalism – or “hyperlocal”. I’ve built citizen journalism sites, done presentations on it, written blog posts on it, and we even had the Future of Journalism week here on GANB.

This is a great visual walkthrough of what citizen journalism is and how social media is changing the way news is being reported.

This is from VizEdu - a killer resource we’ll be featuring a lot in the future.
