It’s all about relevancy, recency and respect: by reading their own recent blog posts as well as their recent comments on other blogs, as a PR pro you show a true interest in your “target.” You learn how to not waste their time.

  • Gannett now expects to eliminate about 2,000 jobs in the community newspaper division alone, says a new Editor & Publisher story that suggests the final tally may be higher, once two of the biggest sites outside the division — USA Today and Detroit — reveal their plans.

  • The Rocky Mountain News, Colorado’s oldest newspaper, was put up for sale Thursday after its owner, E.W. Scripps Co., said it lost about $11 million on the business in the first nine months of the year.

  • But with the slowdown in ad spending and the rise of parts of the population completely unfamiliar with the idea of local TV news, just like they’re largely unfamiliar with getting news from newspapers, the future looks bleak. Will TV stations manage to negotiate the shift to the internet any better than most newspapers have done? That too, seems doubtful.
