  • Google added some new features to Google Docs. Among these are a built-in version of the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary and thesaurus, as well as the ability to look up any term in the Encyclopedia Britannica. You can also now highlight any word in a document to initiate a search in Google or Google Images. For now, these new features are only available in English.

  • Amazon launched a new service called Amazon Video on Demand, which allows users, for a fee, to watch any of 40,000 TV episodes or movies, in real time, on their Windows and Macintosh computers, and on specially equipped Sony Bravia TV sets. This service replaces an earlier Amazon video offering called Unbox.

  • “Saving up.” It’s nearly an alien concept in this “buy with debt” world, but into that breach steps SmartyPig. The site lets you set and save for specific goals in their online savings accounts at a competitive 3.9% APY savings rate. There’s all sorts of built-in graphs and widgets to track your progress, but then you can make it social, if you like, by making a page where your goals public and having friends and family or other random people on the net track and root for your progress, or even contribute to your goal.
