Sneak Peek at WordPress 2.6

by Andy Brudtkuhl on June 24, 2008

At 48Web, we use WordPress for almost everything from a social media platform to blog to CMS. That being said we are pretty excited about some of the new features coming in WordPress 2.6. The first beta is available now and it should be officially rolled out sometime late July or early August.

Some of my favorite new features include:

  • WordPress Auto-Upgrade – they are integrating the popular plugin I recommend for upgrading WordPress into the core software
  • Plugin Auto-Installation – while WordPress 2.5 added the option to upgrade plugins automatically (which I love), 2.6 will have the functionality to install automatically
  • Theme Preview – Allows you to preview a new WordPress theme before applying it
  • Post Revisions - A very cool feature that tracks changes to posts! works just like a wiki or MS Word Tracking
  • Google Gears support for static file caching and possibly offline administration

More to come on WordPress 2.6 as it comes out…
