Microsoft Launches Live Workspace

by Andy Brudtkuhl on October 1, 2007

Office Live WorkspaceFinally, although not what was expected…

Microsoft, in a clever move, does not go the direction everyone was expecting (yet) and has built in web based acces/storage to their existing offline Microsoft Office system. Features include…

Anywhere Access

* Store 1000+ Microsoft Office documents in one place
* Access them from almost any computer with a Web browser
* No more flash drives or sending yourself documents via e-mail

Share With Others

* Invite people to your workspace
* You control who can view, comment, and edit your documents
* Stop manually merging versions from multiple people

Works With Microsoft Office

* Open and save files directly from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Synchronize contact, task, and event lists with Outlook
* No need to learn a new program

TechCrunch thinks it’s stupid and I think TechCrunch’s analysis (which as ususal is anti-Microsoft) is stupid. Clearly Microsoft has been here before and they are not losing anything to services such as Google Docs. Microsoft will and for the forseeable future own the Office/Productivity realm of the Enterprise – which regardless of what you say is where the Cash in Cash Cow comes from.

It’s a great step for Microsoft and the Office platform.
