If you actively read this blog you know I’m a Microsoftee. Truth is 90% of that reason is because I am a Microsoft Developer (ASP.Net, C#, SQL Server). If I could run Visual Studio on a Mac, I would go for it - IF they weren’t double the price of the badass PC I just built.
News today from ComputerWorld is Apple is now selling more than one in six laptops in the U.S.
The market share increase pushed Apple past Gateway Inc. into third place on NPD’s list of laptop sales leaders, behind Hewlett-Packard Co. and Toshiba Corp. Research firm IDC also has Apple in the third spot; data it released last month put Apple’s share of U.S. sales at 5.6%, far behind leaders HP (28.4%) and Dell (23.6%) but tied with Gateway.
ComputerWorld - Apple now sells more than one in six laptops in U.S.
Now that Acer just purchased Gateway these numbers may already be off. Also Acer is looking to buy Packard Bell (yes, somehow they still exist).
While I’m talking about Apple - I get really annoyed by you fanboys and fangirls when you freak out every time Apple announces a press conference. But, I am amazed at their marketing power. They really have you all by the bullocks. Apple seems have permission marketing down to a science.

1I bought an Apple MacBook as we have a need to test under OS X for the sites we’re developing. I started using Windows on it (Vista) but found myself drawn more and more into the Mac OS. Its nice, clean and works well. I don’t subscribe to the fan boys who love everything Apple, however this machine works really well and I think they’ve got the OS really well thought out. I think there’s space for both Windows and Apple (oh and Linux, though we’ll not go there!!). The reason I think Apple are selling so many laptops is that their marketing is awesome and everyone who buys a machine raves about them - Microsoft is probably just too big for anyone to be that passionate about the company

2I know at least 5 people who bought a MacBook or MacBook Pro and loves it. None of them had ever used a Mac before. At the end of the day It’s just a better OS and notebook. Use it before passing judgement. I’m also not really sure how you can compair MacBook which is a notebook with a badass desktop(?) PC you built. Lastly you can run Visual Studio on the Mac using Parallels. There are people out there who do.

3I bought a Macbook Pro a little over a year ago and have loved it ever since. It was my first Mac I’ve ever owned. Being a web designer, many people in my field use them. I like how simiple it is and all the free app resources you get where all the free/shareware for the PC side is bloated and hard to find.

4I compare it in that I spent far less for far more. It’s a pretty simple equation.
And yes, I know of parallels and VMWare Fusion. I ask you this - Have you ever ran Visual Studio on a virtual machine? VS is a memory hog and unless you allocate most of your memory to your virtual machine it will be annoyingly sluggish.
Don’t get me wrong - Macbook’s are sweet. But they aren’t for everyone, no matter what Apple or their fanboys say.
