This can’t be true…Free Health Insurance for Entrepreneurs?

by Andy Brudtkuhl on July 11, 2007

Wow, thanks to Doug for alerting me of this amazing plan from the North Central Iowa Alliance…

The North Central Iowa Alliance (NCIA) will pay for health insurance for startup business owners, removing a major roadblock for people who want to start their own business.

I’ll say it again – Wow. I wonder when central Iowa and the next tech hotspot can adopt this principle and get me out of the cube life. But seriously health insurance is one of the biggest hurdles for a startup of any size (especially for us unmarried folks who cannot rely on a spouse’s coverage). If the Greater Des Moines Partnership or IDED could work something up to help us entrepreneurs we could finally go full-time startup mode. Help?

They claim this is ‘first-in-the-nation’, which does not surprise me. Has anyone outside of Iowa heard of anything like this?

I think it deserves a third WOW.

That is amazing, and I hope that comes to Michigan.

Andy,

I just wanted to let you know we hear you and other entrepeneurs who’d like to get out on their own. I’ve passed on your comments to others here at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. We will do everything we can to develop programs within the community that help entrepeneurs like you.

That said, NCIA’s program is very impressive and definitely does deserve the Wows you gave it!

Amanda –

Thanks for hearing us! It’s nice to know that you guys are listening. Hopefully you can work something out to help out startups, whether it be seed funding or health insurance. We’re here to help out too.

Thanks,
Andy
