According to the iPhone Dev Wiki the hackers have successfully accessed the filesystem of the iPhone. What does this mean? Well – a lot. It seems that they have a phone running without a SIM card which mean the phone is unlocked and can be used without AT&T service. I am still skeptical on whether or not this is the case (and please correct me if I am wrong). We will see as more information is gathered. If you’d like to accomplish this with your shiny new toy, check out the How to Escape Jail tutorial (Brett you should try this and let me know :)).
They’ve also managed to access the iPhone via serial for a full interactive shell.
Oh and how bout those iPhone nano rumors for Q4? Hopefully I was right and we’ll see a new version by the end of the year. Regardless, I’m still waiting for the 2nd Generation.

I would try it, but I am too worried about turning my iPhone into a shiny brick. Somebody should put out a city map of red dots (like a WiFi map) showing the 11 places in Des Moines you can get reception with AT&T.
