As Scoble says in the interview - Thirteen23 has produced the first killer apps for Windows Vista. And, I agree. Here’s the demo they gave Scoble…
I find some irony they are demoing this on a Mac - oh well they still recognize the great potential of Vista.
One thing I love in these interviews is how they feel they can simplify web 2.0 by making it desktop 2.0 - thus inherently passing the “mom test”. As one of them notes - “We’re trying to just connect with our mom”. That’s a big philosophy for TJ and I.
I’ve dabbled in Vista development and it really is something special building on the Windows Presentation Foundation on the new .NET 3.0 Framework. Amazing stuff. They also talk about their process and how the latest environments for developing on .NET and the fact Microsoft has integrated both the designer and development experienced with an extremely streamlined toolset.
So, go get Vista and then visit Thirteen23 and download their apps. I downloaded them once I saw this and, wow. The user experience is something everyone should feel.

1MS is really catching up with Apple finally as far as the presentation layer goes!
I’m excited, maybe we’ll start to see some innovative apps and good new competition for a change.

2Yeah these are cool UI demos. BTW WPF doesn’t require vista, it will run on XP as well.

3Yes - it will run on XP as long as you have downloaded and installed the .NET 3.0 Framework.
I love where M$ is going - now we microsofties can show off things to our mac friends.

4Interesting that the designer in the clip mentions Apollo. Apollo will do everything that WPF will do (except the hardware accelerated 3D) and it’s cross platform.

6Why aren’t all these products in one. Id like to use the music one, the flickr one and the podcast one, but not 3 separate ones.
anyone else?

7I’m guessing because they are really just “labs” — proof of concept type of things.
Apollo as a concept is cool. We’ll see if it comes to fruition.

8HI Andy,
Thanks for putting this out here so even us “old guys” can see where things are heading.
Keep creating…the next killer app?
