We all have our own methods when it comes to battling procrastination. One of the things that helps me stay on task the most is writing things down and making simple to-do lists. I write lists for just about everything from grocery lists to a sadly extreme numbered list of everything I will need to pack for vacation. The physical act of crossing something off the list has always motivated me as well as kept me on track.
This afternoon I found myself drifting from one article to the next when I stumbled across one on FastCompany about how to maintain focus during a project. They have a process they call “3 things” where you basically set 3 goals to accomplish for that specific day. Then if and when you find yourself creeping from your set goals, you use “3 things” to pull yourself back on track.
Andy and I have a similar method (”5 things” ha) we use on all projects to determine how something will be designed, how it will function, how it will benefit the user etc.
Applying the “X things” process to virtually anything can keep you motivated and successful. So if you don’t already do something of this nature, you should. Give it a try and see how much your productivity goes up.
