Guy Kawasaki wrote a good post yesterday called ‘Great Expectations‘ - about the iPhone. He has a few questions about the iPhone that attempt to break through the hype to get real answers. I’ve stated that I want one - but I also want a lot of things. So here are my reasons why I WONT buy an iPhone - yet.
1. I have a year old 30gb Video iPod. So, I can already do all the non-phone features included with the iPhone.
2. There are so many other gadgets I would rather have for $600
3. I’m a Windows kind of guy. My current smartphone runs Windows Mobile 5 - and I want to get on Windows Mobile 6.
4. Don’t tell the gadget geeks on me - but sometimes I just want a phone that’s a good phone - nothing else.
5. I don’t really want to try a first version of a hardware product. I waited to get an iPod until the 5th generation. Not to mention the 2nd gen iPhone will most likely be out within at least a year of launch this June. This means there will be a much better version out of your $500 toy.

1I’m also not getting an iPhone yet because it is bound to change the face of the cellphone market in America. The iPhone competitors are going to be working on features and phones that will try to compete with the iPhone. This will be awesome.

2I must say that I’m just about opposite on all of your points! ha
As much as I’d like to wait for the second generation, I can’t say that I have the patience to wait.
I’m also not really a PC guy, so a Mac environment on my phone would be great.
All first gen stuff has growing pains, and I hope I don’t go through the hell that I’ve gone through with my Moto Q.

3Joe - Great point. The release of the iPhone is going to cause the market to catch up which means we should see some great innovation in the cell phone market over the next couple years.
I wish I could get a Moto Q thru Cingular
- but I have not heard the best from them.

4Yeah, the second gen ones might be better, but I can’t wait to get rid of this phone. Always freezes, and the battery life is awful at best.
