Steve Rubel of Micro Persuasion wrote a post today entitled, “The Day the Entire World Gets RSS“, in reference to the anticipated release of IE7 very soon via a required update.
He says, “…the day Internet Explorer ships is a huge day for RSS. Forget YouTube and Google, this is a major story.”
Why? Because Internet Explorer 7 includes an integrated feed reader. Does that mean my mom will know what the hell RSS is when she opens up her new browser? No. Does that mean she’s gonna know what that new orange button does? No. Will she be curious enough to click it? No. She opened her browser to see if I sent her an email and she’s done.
RSS will become mainstream when my mom doesn’t have to know what RSS to use it. Abstract technology.

1The future of RSS syndication (and all media syndication) will be web services. Desktop apps are dead!
