Adobe Labs has recently release an AJAX framework called Spry. From their site:

“The first release of the Spry framework is a preview of the data capabilities that enable designers to incorporate XML data into their HTML documents using HTML, CSS, and a minimal amount of JavaScript, without the need for refreshing the entire page. The Spry framework is HTML-centric, and easy to implement for users with basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The framework was designed such that the markup is simple and the JavaScript is minimal. The Spry framework can be used by anyone who is authoring for the web in their tool of choice.”

From what I have played around with thus far this framework, unlike many others I have played with, seems to be much more data centric than visually centric. I will definitely look into playing with this. The demos available are all ones I would like to use in a project we are working on and I had been attempting to use AJAX.Net / ASP.Net but this looks like it could be a very easy implementation. I suggest checking this out for anyone looking for an excellent JS/AJAX framework that is more data oriented than visual effects (of which my fav is a combination of moo.fx and prototype).

And, this is the first release so you should keep checking this out.

I was wondering when Adobe was going to look to adopt something like this. They are trying to get people to use their Flex platform but I don’t think it will catch on as the popularity of AJAX increases. Not to mention it costs way too much to host / develop a Flex application.

Check out some demos of Spry here.
