Well, here we go. After the huge success in March for CBS’s online broadcasting campaign, we are poised to see the major networks push content online.
From the article:
“CBS would follow ABC in launching fully ad-supported broadband streaming episodes of its programs. On Monday, Disney-ABC debuted a two-month trial site streaming episodes from four of its series. CBS recently had success with ad-supported streaming of this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament, earning more than $4 million in ad revenue from online Webcasts. It also runs an online only talk show devoted to Survivor.”
CBS will fail in its initial foray into full time IPTV, simply because they will be syndicating content that is not broadcast through the air but will still be ad-laden.
ABC on the other hand is doing a two month trial with its broadcast programs.
So, as everyone jumps on the ‘We’re a media company now’ bandwagon we are going to see expanded forms of media distributions from the likes of GYM and big broadcast media.
So how does this affect Net Neutrality? Can Ma Bell really go up against the likes of the major internet, broadcasting, media, and VOIP providers? That’s a a tough sell to legislation. And now that Microsoft is a media company along with Google, Ma Bell will have to go up against a few of the deepest pockets in the world. Good Luck.
