Well, del.icio.us is down.
After all the buzz, jeremy wright seemed right when he said that, “Web Companies NEED to scale.” Interesting, and here is a Yahoo! owned company that says it ‘will be down for an hour.’ Why not use some Yahoo! funds and make a redundant group of servers … and not have down time when you are in an update. And if you are migrating to Yahoo servers, don’t just take the site down.
David, from 37Signals, believes that Jeremy is wrong, and that web companies do not need to maintain an industry standard 99% uptime. He had his supporters. So David, how do you think your customers would feel if basecamp went down?
I agree with Jeremy. As a del.icio.us user, I am not happy with the outage. As a basecamp user I would not be either. What if gmail went down? There would be public outcries. I guess for now we’ll trust you and just blame Yahoo.
UPDATE: I wrote this post three hours ago, and it’s stilldown (10:30pm CST).
